I have read this book 5 times at least. It is like sitting with a gentle friend who gives sage advice. It reminds me of stuff that I always knew, but sometimes forget. This book rotates in and out of my bathroom reading collection every year or so, and I will read different sections like in the bathtub or whatever. It always calms me and centers me in a zen-like way.
In true zen fashion, it is deceptively simple. Easy to read, easy to understand, but requires much practice to actually DO the stuff.
If every open-mic beginning stand-up read this book and took the advice to heart our open mics would be a much healthier places.
This is one of the books that I would put on my essential reference list for all beginning comics.

I agree with you 100%. This book is a great read for new comics because it touches on so many things that other books don't touch on. That being said, i wish this book took more time on each topic. It is a good overview, but it lacks in detail. Some topics are only described in two paragraphs, but they need a whole book to be understood. This book is like a study guide for comics.
