I was excited to read this chapter because Pryor consistently gets referenced as being one of the best comics of all time. I knew about his heavy drug use but was not aware of his rage issues. I thought the closing of the chapter on pg. 63 was interesting "The power of Pryor's comedy has its drawbacks as well. Plenty of comedians, white and black, emulated his rough language and in-your-face style but missed the empathy and vulnerbaility that informed it."

Richard Pryor is such a unique comedian in that sense. It was his defense mechanism more than anything else. I love him for that reason. Every time on stage his undertones were a vulnerable person, but when he wrote in such a way that he could hide that well with his punchlines. He is the quintessential example of putting emotion into your act.
